Slow is Fast?

I was talking to a client who wanted to slow down some of the things he was doing because he realized that trying to push harder was actually setting him back.

I laughed (internally) when I heard that because I was a little late for that call so when I went to my computer I was in a hurry and entered my password wrong two or three times before I finally got it right.

I had just done the same thing as my client in a different context.

One of my chronic health problems is muscle pain and weakness.

The last time I went to my physical therapist I was frustrated because I was doing less than was prescribed and it was still causing enough pain that I was having trouble sleeping.

He told me to do less, “This is going to be annoyingly slow.”

While I was there, I overheard one of the other physical therapists telling another patient that it’s common for patients to do too much on a “good day” and hurt themselves.

He was encouraging the patient not to press too hard on the days when things felt good. There are times when it is faster to go slower.

Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast.
