“Is this the most important thing that I could be doing right now?”

I started asking myself this question and find it liberating.

No. I don’t have to read the fancy Sherlock Holmes books a friend gave me when I’d rather listen to the audiobook.

No. I don’t have to read Made to Stick. It would probably help me write these emails, but other books are probably going to make a bigger impact on my life, and thus lead to better content.

As you go through your day, try asking yourself “Is this the most important thing I could be doing right now?”

You may find that you make better trade-offs, getting more of the right things done. Less, but better.

You don’t have to do it all. I hope you find that somewhat liberating.

P.S. This question came from Essentialism by Greg McKeown.
